Fort Worden in WA state. Single handling out on wire did not see whale pod because I was looking over my shoulder (Just got on wire). Nearly had my right hip inside lead orcas teeth. I had to take evasive maneuver to avoid other three. Running into large animals like that certainly gives us a quick reminder that when sailing, we are guests in someone else’s home... I still remember about 20 years ago I was windsurfing in college in Florida and accidentally disturbed a manatee. Although they’re considered harmless, they’re still huge and I never saw it ahead of time, so when the thing rolled over and I nearly crapped myself. Never got back up on a board so quick. sm |

Whoa that's crazy. We need more to the story. Was the orca actually paying any attention to you, was it really about to take you? I was just talking with a buddy about how running into a pod of orcas on the hobie would be possibly very scary. |

He slapped his tail down hard that my body went right through I was just talking with a buddy about how running into a pod of orcas on the hobie would be possibly very scary.
