Post subject:  Shroud, bridal, and forestay length

I just bought my first Hobie 16 last fall, unfortunatly the snow came before I was able to take it out. I've been upgrading/replacing some of the old hardware on it and im am looking to buy new Shrouds, bridals and forestays for it. The question I have is the guy who im buying them from said that they are a little longer then usual because they are for racing. The lenghts are; shrouds,19' 1" long; forestay 17' 6" I dont have a length for the bridals. Is this going to be a big deal since im more of a recational sailor? Is the amount of rake very noticiable? I already bought new bridal wire for my roller furler, will I be able to use them?

For racing?

We only make one dimension for the wires.

The only critical wire length is the shroud. Racers want a shorter shroud, not longer. That determines the possible mast rake. Too long and you can't get the mast far enough aft. The current shroud length is 18' 11".

There is lots of information in the forums here about what mast rake is and how it should be set up.

buy your wires from a Hobie dealer that buys the wires from Hobie. there wires are great, correct length and when you go to replace a wire you will know the length for compatibility reasons!

The forestay on my new 16 was too short. I had to add another chainplate adjuster to make it work. Which actually works pretty well, when the jib goes up you can use a small bungee to hold the forestay out away from the jib. Easier than unhooking it and tightening it up so doesn't slap against the jib all the time.

thats what we use to do before they made the forestay longer, works like a charm.
