I'm new to Hobie's and sailing so.......

Bought a 1984 H16 and working on setup....sail mostly solo (230#)
Shrouds are in 3rd hole from bottom, jib halyard tight and mainsheet blocks almost touching.
Measured rake is 4" with mainsheet eased, 6" with mainsheet tight...( should this be measured with main sheet tight or loose?)
Using Main Halyard to measure diff. between distance to front bridle screw and bottom corner of transom.
Standing back, rake angle looks like more...
Any more rake and I don't think I can tension the mainsail leech before blocks touch (Seaway 5:1).

I'm seeing lots of "start with 16" rake".....is this for newer boats only???
How much rake can/should I look for on 1984 H16?

Somewhere in the late 80s the mast step casting was changed to allow for more rake. I know the 85 16 I had was the older style casting. When they changed the casting they also changed the length on the shrouds. I had an 89 14 that had the newer casting. So some of the figures you are getting are probably for the newer boats. If you try for too much rake, your casting may bind at the mast base.

Good point on the mast base...
