Does anyone know of any cheaper alternatives to the Harken #2629 & #2640? Looks like the Nautos equivalent is around $200 for the lower, and $80 for the upper. Is there anything else out there that might work?

You can always do the Seaway conversion and go with a 5:1 system. I did it years ago and it has worked flawlessly. I have never used a 6:1 Harken system, but at the time my hobby budget was not so that it was possible. It cost me about $10 dollars of stainless hardware. There are some instructions somewhere online. It has been too many years for me to remember where.

Oh wow, didn't even know there was a conversion, thanks for the info! I see some forum discussions about it now, as well as the instructions. I may give this a shot and see how it turns out. Might try to add another pulley for a 6:1, the 5:1 is okay, but my hand gets pretty tired after an hour or so.

Aside from the Harkens, Nautos, and Seaway conversion, is there anything else out there worth looking into?

I just saw on another thread there is another company making some, called nautos. I have not personally used these. But the thread I saw them on said they work great.
