mast base was change in '82 for more rake

will the 18'11" work?, they should right with the 10 hole chain plates.. :?:

1995 - shrouds shortened from 19'2" to 18'11"
- Updated corner castings (injection moldings) and trackless pylons, integrated jib and main traveler tracks
- jib traveller with cleat on pad riveted to crossbar, Delrin sliding car
- Miracle 20-style tiller connectors

1996? - deeper jib traveler track with brass-wheeled cars

mid-late '90s - updated bolt rope in sails

2000 - recut jib?

2004 - another mast step casting change to improve rotation

late 2005 - roller bearing jib traveler with cleat on car

2004~5 - EPO2 rudders standard?

2009 - shrouds shortened slightly to 18' 10.25" - bridle lengthened to 3' 9.5"

the list looks like guesswork.
Main traveler was the slide plate til 75 or 76
They still had the hook system on the mast til 76
All masts had 3 hole tangs by 79
Increased aft tramp grommets came in 80
Increased mast rake was late 80s not in 82
Rake adjustable rudder castings came in 83
boom vang hanger was removed in 85

So you want to put 1995 shroud length on an 84 boat? and use 10 pin adjusters instead of the 7 pin
You may need to grind down your mast step to allow for the rake or replace the step.
But that's my guess. I see no difference in the 80-85 mast steps.

an update

18'10.25" shrouds installed on 84 hobie 16
new frt stay 17"6" installed

frt stay on top hole of 10 hole chain plate
Mast was stepped with the side shrouds on top holes (10 hole chain plates) & frt stay connection was made.

side shrouds were able to be brought down to the 4th hole on each side

bridles are std size per the hobie wire guide for an 84

mast rotates freely & stops engage as they should

With new shrouds & the 10 hole plate on my boat (76') only allows me to go to the 2nd hole down from the top before the old seaway's are block to block. Does this sound right? I'm in the process of converting to a lower profile. I always thought that the foot of my sail sits a bit lower than other pics I've seen, is that even possible?

Yes, sounds right, hobie wire guide has all the lengths for the different years, bridle length & lwr frt stay lengths figure in.
Maybe your frt stay is longer.

I dont know how the foot could be lower though..that seems strange

Like the stopper on the halyard is lower?

I made a chainplate extension so that the old style front stay could be used. I bought a new halyard, the top of the sail sits where it's supposed to when the sleeve is locked into the tang. It's very possible that my eyes are playing tricks on me though, after taking a second look at other boats compared to mine, maybe it is normal. Where does the gooseneck usually sit with the downhaul off?
