Said it before (a year ago), but I’ll say it again - if cost is your main concern, just use the original connectors. They work fine and only cost $13.

I want to upgrade the tiller connections (refreshing all of the steering components this winter) but came across part 1957, I'm not racing anything class legal nor know enough to care about adjust-ability. It's half the price and seems a smoother setup with fewer hand and line catch points. Has anyone installed this on a 16? |

I would highly recommend you stick with adjustable tiller connectors. The 1957 kit will probably fit on the H16 rudder system, but without some form of adjustment, your tow in could easily be off by an inch or more. Having the rudders that far out of alignment would negate any benefit gained by the reduction in slop from the new connectors. If you’re not interested in getting the most performance, I would just go with the original connectors. They work reasonably well, are adjustable, and are significantly less expensive than any of the other systems. sm |

1957 is not recommended for the Hobie 16 and would not have the length needed to make the tiller crossbar long enough. |

Yes, but for the almost 70 dollars in savings I could buy material for a new cross bar, possibly even out of carbon for a what the hell. As an engineer I find it hard to spend 170 dollars on something that can have most of its parts made on a 400 lathe by a shop student. |

Some people just go anyway because really, what's more social distancing than being out on the open water on a boat? I messed around and haven't registered mine for this year yet and now, it's difficult to get any legal stuff done in my area. I've been off work for the past two weeks and will be off for the next two weeks all because of the virus stuff. I've wanted to hit the lake but have been doing the "honey-do-list" stuff around the house. The weather was perfect today, and yesterday we had 14mph winds here, but alas, I am land locked down. Hopefully will get out there soon. Stay safe!!! |

There are a number of issues about sailing this year...... 1. Our SC is closed. Shut down. Zero. Babkes. We can't even get into the yard. 2. Even if we sail solo, if something goes wrong, the Marine Patrol or Water Police etc are also the folks helping with Covid-19, which is not a good use of resources. Like I said, the chances of sailing this year are evaporating..... |
