The pin on my main halyard is gone. I noticed it would come out, though it is supposed to be captive. I will look through my boxes a few more times, and am looking for my old halyard (the missing pin is off a newer halyard).

I thought I would post here for a recommendation on a replacement pin. I would hope the pin is a standard diameter and thread, and maybe a standard length. I really do not want to replace my newish halyard.

Please help!!

Thanks!

I don’t know the details on the pin (though I would guess it’s 1/4-20 thread, you could easily verify by checking the threads with a screw).

Anyway, worst case scenario, I think you could carefully drill out the threads on the shackle and then just use a standard clevis pin with split ring or a quick-pin. That would at least allow you to salvage the halyard if you can’t find the right threaded pin.

You could take the pin from a new shackle as an option.

I got a new shackle and filed off the pin nubs.

Any thoughts on putting the 'captive' back in the pin? Would solder stick to the pin?

How about a spot of 5200 or JB weld?

The pin is most likely stainless steel.

You could try silver solder with a flux. If you know anyone who can tig weld they could easily put a couple dots of weld on the pin.
