Post subject:  No longer available? Quick release pin for forestay 10 hole

I am trying to find a quick release pin like I have on my 16 for a friends 16. It is for connecting the Forestay 10 hole to the shackle on the bridle wires. It makes connecting the forestay to the bridles very easy and quick.

The one I have I believe is a hobie part. I think I remember seeing it in an old catalog but I can't find it anywhere now.

It is not like the new quick release pins with a button and a cup, It is a straight pin with a spring and a flat blade that swivels to lock it in. It also has a small cable to keep it from getting lost.

I am not sure if it is still available but figured someone on here might know.

TIA
Eric

If not available through Hobie, try McMaster Carr (probably cheaper too). Just need to make sure you get the right length.

They sell pins like this on ebay as well. Very cheap, but it is sometimes hard to find dimensions, and of course it takes 2 months to ship.

I'm curious if any of you veteran diy'ers out there have tried a pto pin as a replacement in the 10-hole adjuster?

e.g.

I wouldn't trust those because they can work out. I had a couple of those on my snowmobile trailer in a spot I never would of imagined they could have worked the bail off and they both were gone when got home. They were brand new so it wasn't from them being old and weak

Sooner or later they will fall out, quickly.

Harbor freight items are not stainless... not the right strength.

As noted above... quick pins... fall out / fail to easily. I do not recommend for standing rigging.

On my boat, the 10-hole adjuster stays attached to the bridle wires with a bow shackle (threaded pin), and I use a 1/4" quick pin to pin the forestay into the adjuster when I raise the mast. I use a solid pin with a spring-loaded ball in the end, not a push-release pin which is hollow and weaker. I suppose it could come out but it's really easy to see (the pin is way longer than it needs to be) and it doesn't move.

I use a longer version of this: https://www.apsltd.com/quick-pins-stand ... ing-7.html

EDIT: here's a pic:
