Post subject:  Looking for Hobie Mainsail Battens

Hey all, I'm trying to get 3 mainsail battens (#1, #2 and #5) in the next 2 weeks, and currently my best option seems to be Murray's... for close to $300 US...

I tried my "local" Hobie dealer. They were a little less expensive (about $300 CDN), but didn't think they could get them here quick enough.

Anyone have any used they want to part with, or alternative suggestion? At this point I'm leaning toward makeshift out of ABS pipe wall to get me through the summer, and sorting it out next season.

I suppose that's the logical next question. Is there any economical way to ship a package thats 9 feet long? Anyone done this before?

Bill, you wouldn't happen to be on Grandview Lake would you? I just went down and picked up an '84 from there last weekend.

John ,

I probably have the jib battens because I switched over to those super batten a long time ago. :)

I have an 8" round by 10' long spiral ductwork fulls of batten hanging from my garage ceiling.

Also I built a Unistrut rack of three 12" round by 10' long spiral galvanized ductwork with a set of sails in each. All hug tight to my garage ceiling.

This is part of my 'conversion' from years of sailing H18's and my beloved H18SX (now sold), as I am now sailing a 2015 H16 racer.
So I should remain class legal, as much as possible.
I have issues with two battens in the jib, and I am looking for a replacement set.....class legal.

H16's are such fun to sail.....a real sports car....my son and I clocked up 18.3 knots on a good run, two weekends ago.

I ended up buying a full used set off ebay. About $200 shipped. Not sure what method they used to get shipping costs that low, everything I could find was about $200 for shipping alone. At any rate, took about a week and a half to arrive, but I'm happy.

Thanks to all for your assistance, Bill 404 in particular!

Did they come complete with batten caps?

Well done, enjoy your sailing.

Batten caps not included. I replaced mine with the Tren Tec adjustables.
