Post subject:  New Jib rigging (really old rigging)

I sail on a friends 16 and he has original rigging

1. we want to update it as it hard to use when you are on the trapeze. you cant uncleat it. even when you have power on it you have to go and wack it down witv your hands
2.what should we do?
3. should we replace just the cleats or everything to a new style.

4.if you have ideas can you share the website to where to get what we are after.

Did you try to move the pin to the center or far hole (where the bitter end of the line is tied), this should angle the cleat up more, allowing an easier release. One of my boats uses this old system, it is a little hard to uncleat at times.

we can move them around

we want to remove all old rigging and out new rigging on.

As far as I know, the next version of the jib sheet system used the same track and looks like this. If you are willing to replace the track there may be better options, but this one at least has a modern cleating configuration (up to release):

Do not waste your time fiddling with those old Seaway cleats. There is no adjustment you can make that will make them work well. I suggest you consider the latest version of upgrade jib cleates that work with the “old” tracks. You can get a full kit that allows remote traveler adjustment or just buy the cleats themselves if you don’t want remote adjustment.
