Anybody sail in cold water? My feet have been getting cold in my 3mm booties. I'm wondering if they are leaky, or suffering from evaporative cooling?

If they have nylon (absorbs water) on the outside... yes, these could make you cold.

Consider getting a hard shell boot.

Try a pair of thicker booties. I have a pair of 7mm surf booties from O’Neil. Have windsurfed with them in January - my body has gotten cold and my hands have gone numb, but my feet have always stayed warm. Also, a warm hat or neoprene beanie will go a long way towards keeping your whole body warmer.

That's awesome, and scary as hell! Would a dry suit even be able to keep you warm enough if you capsized?

I surfed once in -15F air temp for 1-1/2 hours in a wetsuit So I bet the dry suit would work

In case any future forum-goers are interested, I solved this problem by taking the advice of a reddit person from Norway. I purchased 7mm xcel dry-lock booties.

My wife purchased 7mm dive boots, with a zipper on the side. My feet stay dryer/warmer than hers, but she can get in and out of the boots oh-so-easy. She has a stiffer bottom of the shoe as well. I think I would have gone with the boots as well, except I'd like to use mine for windsurfing in addition to sailing, and windsurfing requires a lot of foot feel.
