I acquired 2 HOBIECAT 16's and have taken the best from both boats to make 1 complete 16. I am trying to decide which of the 2 booms to use. The goosenecks are slightly different...The gooseneck on one of the booms slides in and out of the end cap and the other gooseneck doesn't slide at all. The boom with the non sliding gooseneck is in a lot better shape and I am wondering if this one is not supposed to slide. I guess my question is does the gooseneck pin need to slide in and out of the end cap? |

That pin that slides into the boom/cap should slide about an inch or so in and out, but it should have an "E-ring" stopper that keeps it from sliding all the way out of the end cap. When sailing the pin pushes in, so really a non issue. They do need to rotate. |

I guess my question is does the gooseneck pin need to slide in and out of the end cap? Prolly just corrosion preventing it from moving. PB Blaster or such and some hammer taps should help. As stated above, there should be a clip that keeps the boom pin from sliding all the way out (I've seen cotter pins there, too), and that should be a non-issue when sailing. However, hypothetically speaking...….one day you may find yourself hundreds of miles from home....on a stellar sailing day....the first day of your week-long beach vacation...installing the boom....and wondering where the hell your gooseneck went. |
