Hi Hobie Enthusiasts — I've recently purchased a neighbor's circa 1974 Hobie Cat and am working to make sure that it's got all the parts it needs before summer. On its rudder tube, there is an open hole which doesn't seem to correspond to anything on the current Hobie 14/16 parts guide at https://media.hobie.com/digital_assets/ ... h_2017.pdf. I’m pretty sure that’s the pin for the rudder cams to lock onto. Later boats (1983+) use an adjustable plate and different casting. If it’s missing the pin inside the slot in the casting, you won’t be able to lock the rudders down. If the pin is missing or broken, I don’t believe it’s repairable but someone might come up with a field fix. |

It looks like the rolled pin is indeed there....you should be fine. |

Thanks for the replies all. From what I could tell, there was no trouble locking the rudders down (nor any other problem), but the apparent gaps made me nervous all the same. Nice!!! Thanks for the pic. My boat is a 1984 model, yellow hulls with boomer stripes, yellow Nationals sails, I call her "Yellow Fever" . |
