Yesterday I came up with an idea for making a cat trax with just a fraction cost of the original ones.... Of course this is for those that dont care about having all the "cool hobie cat stuff" or dont care about being a the cool dude at the beach with all the expensive toys.......your H16 has to be in top shape and neat but beach wheels ...who cares!!! A 55 gallon blue plastic drum with a 2" sch 40 pvc pipe inside the drum (only as wide as the drum itself to make it the bushing) and pvc connectors as ends to make the pvc beefier....and to have an alum axle/pipe roll inside, held with some pins to keep it from slidding out to the sides Im sure it could be made for less that 100$$ and will sure be ingenuity at the beach for those who paid 400$ for cat trax..... besides the foot print will be wider than the regular cat trax and will be easier to move with the cat weight on top... maybe some thin round starboard pannels riveted on the sides to give the drum some more rigidity where the axle rests..... Ill post when I get it done... havent started yet!! |
