After sand destroyed the old cam cleats on the jib I bought the Spinlock T series on impulse and they work great at the weather mark in heavy conditions. See picuture Forget harken, ronstan etc. Not cheap and not bear foot friendly but works 100%. I have no share or business interest just a H16 sailor Spinock PXR 0810-T

I have spinlocks for the jib as well and they are great. They are a bit picky on the type of line that you use, and they will chew up your sheets faster than a normal cam, but they certainly work well - the thing that I like best is that they stay cleated or uncleated when you want them to, even while playing the line. If you are converting from cleats on the cars (like the horrible old 1980 original I had on mine) to cleats on the crossbar and say, TrenTec cars, it's actually cheaper to get the swivel-spinlocks (they have a swivel built in) than to get the swivel, bullseye, and a decent cam-cleat. |

The 'neutral' position is indeed the other big plus. To cover the wear and tear I ordered the sheet 2m to long. So every other season you can cut 0,25m of each end and it will live forever on the boat. I prefer the "halyard" type of lines (see pic) The harder the outside the less blister your crew will get. Only question that remains is? Hhow will they last on the beach with salt&sand eating at them. For the moment I remove them with the one screw. support at spinlock is not answering my question on that item so far! |

If you are concerned (and I think you should be, there is a lot more for sand to get caught in on the Spinlocks), get two small, UV-resistant drawstring bags. At the end of the day, put the bags over the cleats and draw them tight - bingo, instant sun, salt and sand protection. |

tjp, You suggest getting the swivel model of the Spinlock PXRs. Can you share with me what's involved with mounting them to the crossbar? Judging from the pictures I've seen the bottom piece of the swivel is flat, and I'm curious what hardware/shims are needed to mount to the not-flat crossbar. I too have the old cleat-on-car, metal-toothed crap from the early 80s, and my crew/girlfriend is going to kill me if I don't come up with some sort of replacement soon. Also I'm curious if you've noticed. The class-recommended line size for jib sheets is 5/16ths which is at the lower end of the Spinlock's 8-10mm range. Is that going to be an issue? Ian |

I changed the jib sheets to a more high quality line, (can't remember what kind, but it was expensive- over $50 for the jib sheets if I remember), but I haven't had a problem with them since, I also replaced the springs in the cleats and keep them lubricated and I adjust the tension of the screw every once in a while. I however only sail for pleasure, unless there is another hobie on the lake, but with a new 3 week old boy I don't know if I will get to sail much this summer. I hopefully will get a chance to take my 4 year old boy out some time this summer. John G. |

John G. Bannanahead, I have seen more infants in the last 2 years (since I joined the fleet) then in the entire time my wife worked for a daycare. Take the baby to the lake  .
