Post subject:  Hobie 16 1981 refit

I'm new to Hobie sailing and was just gifted a 1981 Hobie 16. It needs new sails and a tramp. My question is whether new sails from Hobie will work on the rigging or do I need to replace the rigging as well? Also will a new tramp from Hobie fit this frame? Any other recommended upgrades? The hull and rigging seem to be in very good condition. I live on Sproat Lake in Western Canada and don't think I will be racing but would like the option to race if the opportunity is there. Thanks for any info.

the Hobie 16 is a "one-design" boat, meaning dimensionally it has not, and will not, change.

Sails and tramp will fit like a glove. The rigging has changed lengths over the years to allow for more mast rake (at racers request).

I'd suggest getting the parts you absolutely have to have, and go sailing.
Do some more research and enter a race. If you are sailing/racing the boat to its' potential, and find you're at a disadvantage,
this may be due to boat weight, as the '80 through '83 boats are heavier than current boats.
If you find a newer (lighter) boat you can always swap out your new stuff, and sell the '81
