I really need help on 1981 Hobie shroud lengths. I have the second set of new shrouds that don't fit. This time from Salty Dog Marine listed as 1971 -1994 Hobie 16. I'm hoping to find the right ones before summer is over or my ancient singe swage Hobie shrouds fail. Original hobie shroud measures 230 1/2" and on the fourth hole in the 7 hole shroud plate I can pin the forestay in the second hole of the 10 hole bridle plate. The new shrouds are 228" and there is no way to pin the forestay. There is not enough adjustment. Please, If you know the shroud length post them! The Hobie shroud length guide doesn't go back far enough. |

It sounds as though your forestay is too short, you could try and add another hole adjuster to the existing forestay adjuster to provide an extension. |

Sounds like your original shrouds were pre-1995 and the ones you got were '95-'09 (if the info on my page is accurate). Worst case you get someone to make you some to the right length. It's easy for someone with the right tools. |

Like Paragon said... add another chainplate to the bridle/forestay connection. Assuming you don't have any mast rotation issues, you'll point better with more rake.... and once your jib is up you can tie the second forestay chainplate forward to get the forestay off your jib. Win win |

I'm I seeing this right? Because the new side shrouds are shorter, can't you pin them to a higher hole on the shroud stay adjusters. You say you are in hole 4. The adjuster has 7 holes. That would keep the same mast rake as before and the forestay at the same position in it's forestay adjuster. |

I just measured the standing rigging on my 2000 boat. The forestay is 18'9", the shrouds are 18'10.5" and the bridle wires are 44.5". With my forestay at the 3rd from bottom hole, I can pin the shrouds comfortable in the middle of the 7-hole adjusters. With the forestay closer to the top I would have even more flexibility, and my shrouds seem to be shorter than yours. Can you furnish the length of your forestay and bridle wires, so we can put your issue in perspective? |
