Post subject:  Main Block and Traveler

I am fully confused as to how the main block on the Hobie 16 is to be set up. The big question is coordinating it with the traveler. I have 2 blocks attached to the boom. Then a block attached to the main block/cleate. I attach the main block to the traveler but then what holds the traveler in place? I know I have a cleate that is attached to the boat.... I assume this is to hold the traveler in place but where is that line? surely not the main line......I dont know...Is there a diagram as to how this is all to work....I took the boat out and rigged it how I thought it would work...no dice...and no skin left on my hands either. :?:

Thanks for all help,
Jim W

Take the tail end of the mainsheet and feed it through the cleat mounted on the crossbar. Pass that through the rollers in the main traveler and through the fairlead mounted on the crossbar. Tie a stopper knot and you're all set.

After you tie off the tail, slide the traveler to within an inch or 2 to the corner casting, and tie another stopper just befor the cleate on the cross bar. This will prevent your traveler from slamming into the corner casting on a hard jibe.
