Seeing the other recent thread about righting, I also wanted to get some feedback on a situation that I had last weekend. After capsizing, the wife and I had difficulty pointing the boat into the wind. The wind was 15-20 and the boat would not point into the wind (while on it's side). The bottom of the tramp was facing into the wind and the sail was in the water on the leeward side. The wind kept pushing against the tramp every time we tried to point the bow into the wind. After 20 exhausting minutes of swimming around and trying to get the bow into the wind, the wind slacked enough for us to get it around. Anyway, I was wondering if there was some technique for getting the bow into the wind during those type of wind conditions or if we're just weak swimmers. Thanks for the help. |

once you have stabalized the boat on its side, get on it and move to the bows, by depressing the bows into the water and allowing the stern to ride free of the surface, the wind will swing the boat around so that the bows will point into the wind. you will find more info in the Murrays catalog on page 37 good luck |

Gordon, thanks for the tip. Changing the subject.... Missed you on Sunday, but I know you were working on the monohull. Did you hear about the public meeting tonight (Tues) at 6:00 PM? The OKC Planning Department is presenting the Final Draft of the Lake Hefner Recreation Master Plan. The meeting is being held at the Will Rogers Garden Exhibition Center located at 3400 NW 36th St in OKC (SW corner of 36th and I-44). We need a good showing of cat sailors there. The master plan kind of left us out of the picture, mostly because we do not have a club or organization. They do not have us included on the "User List". Anyway, they will be handing out copies of the plan at the meeting. Hope to see you there. |

The County master plan meeting was at the same time and since I work for the county planning dept I had to attend. As far as a club goes - can't speak for anyone else but Kathy and I are members of LHBOA & COSA as are Randy & Kerri Dawn - we already pay close to a thousand dollars a year to sail on Lake Hefner. So I'm not really interested in anymore club affiliations - did you read the plan? The did not leave us out. Hobie Point has been designated a Catamaran and small center board area. |
