Post subject:  H 16 rudder casting advice.

While refurbishing the rudder castings on my recently purchased but yet to be sailed 1980’s H 16 I realized the thin strip of cast metal that spans the casting behind the cam is broken off. My question is : Is that missing thin strip of cast metal essential to the rudder cam function? If I do have to replace the casting, does anyone on the forum have an intact one I could buy? I already have the complete rebuild kit and am capable of drilling out the old adjustment screw if it is seized. Thanks

There is a need to stop the cams from over-rotating (open), so that could be an issue.

Update 4/18/21 Thanks for the clarification. I went to a local welder, he was able to tig weld a small piece of like material to re-form the bar that stops the rudder cam from over-rotating. $20 well spent!
