Hi all, Hoping for a good answer from the forum for my question. I have an old '77 H16 and the mast base is cracked at the hole where the step hinge goes. Not all the way, but I'd like to replace it for mast stepping safety. If I buy a new Hobie mast base will it be compatible with my old mast step? Many thanks, |

I don't think a '77 is much different from my '85 H16. Just replaced the original mast base, and not the mast step, with a new one without any issues of mast rotating. I've heard that sometimes the older mast steps don't always match up well with newer mast bases because Hobie has increased the mast rake over the years a couple of times. This could cause the two to bind where the casting for the pin hits the step, possibly keeping the mast from rotating while sailing. Hope this helps some... |
