Post subject:  sun fried comp mast, what to do?

hi, (im new here, hope this is the correct procedure)
i just bought a h16 with a "sun fried" comp mast. i saw that term at another post/topic. i asked about repair thinking that a thin tropical formula of polyester resin may work to get into and strengthen the exposed surface fibers. seems like what is always done on fiberglass boats.
but it was suggested i use a poly? paint. i hope there is a product and a solution.
thanks!

The paint will cover the loose fibers. This does not strengthen the CompTip. Nor would using resin of some kind.

Anything you do is going to be strictly cosmetic. You can't "strengthen" the fibers nor the tip structure with paint or resin.

It is possible that you are only seeing cosmetic damage. A quarter millimeter under the surface all may be well.
