Hi All, I've searched all the posts on serial numbers and have a bit of a puzzler with mine. I get all the numbers, etc. It's the last of the serial number that is confusing. CCMS2842M84F-R. Looks like I have an 84 made in May (I think?) but what is the "R?" Red line? Reject? I know they have A-1 for quality... K |

Somewhat speculating here, but it may stand for "Replacement." I had a set of .....79-R hulls once. As I understand it, there were a lot of failures that year.....so many that one could saw the transoms off, turn them in to Hobie, and get a new set of hulls. There were some failures with the red glue boats as well. I experienced one and know of at least two others, so maybe your hulls were replaced when the boat was still under warranty? When hulls are replaced in situations like this, it would seem logical to keep the original HIN but add a notation such as the "-R." After all it's not a whole new boat, and this way the ownership papers, registration, etc. wouldn't have to change |
