I recently purchased a used 1980 Hobie Cat 16. It’s a learning curve. I moored it out overnight and quickly realized that that’s not the way to treat a new friend. Anyway, we brought her into shore and discovered that some damage had occurred, in that the Baby Bob took a ride to the neighbors, minus the boat. Recovered, but stripped one of the bolt holes. The worst was that the main halyard line broke at the second “knurl” (not the one that fits into the yoke and secures the mainsail). I was able to get a replacement, but it requires crimping the shackle on that attaches to rope to pull the sail up.
Does anyone know why it doesn’t come preassembled, as I would think its a standard length. I have the old one to match up to.
Any help would be appreciated.

The looped end will not fit through the mast head, so you pass the wire through before crimping the swage.

You could drill out the sheave's sleeve in the mast head, then you could pass the looped end of the main halyard thru the mast head. After this, put a short & fat clevis pin thru the mast head & sheave.
