Talk me out of buying this. No sail, tramp bad, till bar broke. The top of front pontoons i can push in and it pops back in place. Other than that. What do you think? I do have a 18 Prindle sail that may work on it.[img] I’ll try to send a link to picture |

Quote: The top of front pontoons i can push in and it pops back in place. I'd walk based on this statement. Not worth $50. Check the "spectacular death" video in my signature. |

I watched a video on fixing delamination. By drilling 300 holes in the top hull and injecting resin epoxy in each hole. Looked like a bit of cash and a lot of labor. I’m a sucker for projects but this may be beyond my skill level. Thanks for the advice! |

We were just featured on Joyrider TV, Show us your cat. https://youtu.be/XMzt1ZAGKMo Our delam repair failed because the foam was wet. Then I did some major surgery. Our crash and repairs are shown at 4:50. I'm totally a sucker for a project. |

Walex, That is some nice fiberglass repair . I failed to mention that the hobie is stored with the bow facing lower than the stern so both hulls were full of water. I could not lift it from trailer tongue. Has anyone tried a can of expanding foam in a hull to fill voids? |

Just walk away. That Hobie is dead. There’s others out there that are worth your time. You’re gonna be out many hundreds just to replace the missing key parts (even with used parts) and the delam and water-logged hulls are a poor foundation to begin with. |

Quote: Has anyone tried a can of expanding foam in a hull to fill voids? Bad idea. That would hold water and just be more junk to throw out. I'd definitely skip that boat now! There are lots of old H16s out there, and some worthy of saving. |

Ok, I get it. Not a good idea. However…Suppose it was free and I never fly a hull. Just pudder around on a lake . I’ll find a used backyard kids trampoline and wrap the over the existing tramp. Maybe reinforce the hull like they did on liberty ships in WW2. Somehow scab my Prindle sail to it. Low budget Cat? Is any of the hardware valuable? |

Free - but heavy. They sail poorly when heavy. You would be better off with a Snark or something. One of my cheap cats had some bad repairs on the starboard hull, and it weighed 128 lbs. Forget flying a hull, we had to shift our weight to keep from sinking the starboard stern. |

Tell the seller that for $200 you'll haul it off. That means he gives YOU the $200, not the other way around. |

I offered him a guitar I had laying around to trade. They declined. I’ll keep looking. I do have a Hobie holder sail boat. It was fun learning about cats. |

I think you found the best outcome! Where do you look? Between craigslist and facebook marketplace there are generally a few available at any time. I'm not on facebook but that is where my son found our latest $300 H16. |

The boat is junk. But does it come with a decent trailer? Then look for a better boat with no trailer. |
