It's fall 2021, what is procedure and process of order H16 custom colored class LEGAL sails? What colors are available? What loft are they produced? Estimated lead time? |

The process is to call your dealer. Custom sails must be ordered through your dealer and they will have all the details including the available colors. |

Rich is 100% correct, contact a Hobie dealer and they can walk you through the process. In the meantime, if you search these forums, you'll find some relatively recent posts with recently-available sail colors (your dealer will be able to tell you what's available now). Here's a post from Jan 2019 with the then-available colors: https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=64138 I ordered a custom jib and my dealer contacted Hobie and Hobie sent me some pieces of sail cloth to look at. For me, the whole process took about 6-8wks, but a lot depends on when there's time at the factory to make a custom sail. -Daniel |

I wonder what the downside of using 4oz cloth would be. I can get 4oz in colors from various suppliers. I've made a few sails for my dinghys as a hobby. I'd like to make sails for my catamarans someday too. |

Lighter fabric for lighter air. I've blown out my spinnaker twice in 15+ knot winds. Clearly not made for higher winds. |

Heavier fabric is stronger and more dimensionally stable. You need to use a material that is up to the task of withstanding the apparent wind speeds and loads on a catamaran sail. Both of these are higher on a catamaran as compared to a similarly sized dinghy. Plus a heavier fabric will take more handling abuse and generally just last longer. sm |

Sailrite lists their 4oz dacron fabric as being for beachcats - too bad they don't have colors in 6oz dacron. |
