Post subject: | Lotsa Questions |
1) I have to replace the "figure eight" cleat on my mast. Found a cleat with the proper spacing. Is there a special rivet or something for attaching it? 2) Its my understanding that the jib when attached works as the forestay. How much slack should there be in the forestay when the jib is attached. 3) When sailing solo I am having a hard time cleating the main sheet that controls the movement of the main traveller. When I try to cleat it, it goes down so the sheet won't cleat. Any hints? 4) I also have a hard time uncleating the jib sheet. Any hints? 3) I am going to be in my first regatta, sailing Solo on Wednesday. Any tips, tricks you can send my way that are related directly to the cat (I have done regatta in a monohaul) would be appreciated. |

1. Just use high quality STAINLESS STEEL rivets. 2. the jib dose work as the for stay. The slack in the for stay is not revelent. you want your rig tight. 3. try bending the traveler cleat up so it is at a better angle. Keep in mind that doing this will make it harder to un-cleat. 4. I also have a hard time getting the Jib to un-cleat. Set the jib cleat so that is it rolled back as far as it will go. 5. As far as the regata goes have fun and try not to hit anybody. Hobies move fast sailing is not a contact sport. hope this helps, Evan |

Hey Triggs, You're doing the absolute perfect thing to answer the questions that you've posted. Go to a Hobie Regatta! Just go around and introduce yourself to the sailors. You'll get a bunch of hands-on help! Hobie sailors are naturally helpful people and they love to talk about boats. 1. Yes, you need a special rivet and cap. And sometimes the standard rivet gun nose piece won't fit into the cleat. 2. A lot! Depends on the forestay you have, could be up to 6" slack 3. HMMM, Might need to adjust cleat angle. Ask one of the hobie sailors at the regatta to take a look. 4. Are the cleats working OK. What line diameter are you using? 5. Boat speed man. Don't pinch, just go fast. Hope this helps! |
