Post subject: | EPO Rudders |
Just bought an new Worlds 16. Was planning to keep my EPO rudders which are still in good shape. Come to find out they won't fit in the new castings. Questions: (1) Why not keep the dimensions on the new rudders the same as the old EPOs ... regardless of the material? (2) Is it worth trying to make the EPOs fit (e.g., grind the casting) or just go with the new racing blades that came with the boat? I'm having a tough time justifying grinding new castings on a brand new new boat, and thne having to fill and redrill the rudder holes. Am I missing something here? Looking for some feedback. Thanks, |

That's the first I heard that EPO's wouldn't fit in newer castings. I've seen plenty of brand new boats with old EPO's. From your comments, I'm assuming the blades are too thick. Why not take a belt sander to the head of the blade? (Being very careful not to take off too much material, and only in the right spots!) As long as you don't get into the glass, you're not weakening the rudder. |

Every now and then we need to grind a bit on the castings to make them fit snugly. A simple hand file will do the trick. Thanks, Brad Stephens www.sunjammers.com<------new site! Authorized Hobie/Vanguard Dealer Division 15 Chairman Panama City Beach, FL [email protected] 850-235-2281 |
