Post subject:  Jib flutter - help?

Heya all,

The leach of the jib on my boat flutters when the wind pick up. We can sheet in to eliminate that to a degree, but I don't like it in any case. Is it an adjustment issue (battens too tight or loose, tension somewhere is wrong, I've tried changing holes in the clew plate but it doesn't seem to make much difference) or is the sail just junk?

Thanks in advance for any help!

The leech is the first thing to go on a 16's jib.

You may be able to have a sailmaker give it a little nip-tuck... that or sail in light wind only! :)

My flutter seemed to decrease somewhat as I changed my mast rake a touch and moved my d shackle (i attach to the tack-of the jib) up a few holes on the forestay to gain a tad more distance between the jib clew and the jib cleats to help me get a better shape even when sheeted in tight...
but be aware this newbie changed alot of other aspects in boat trim as well when i did that... Or am i all wet.. Matt and Matt?
