Post subject:  H16 Jib Halyard 2023 version
H16 Brain Trust: HobieClass had a video talking about the new "global" H16 and, in particular, that the latest-greatest H16 jib halyard is a Dyneema core with some type of cover to address the tendency of slippage. Anyone have any recommendations on what brand/type of covered dyneema to use? I'm guessing it should be 5mm (3/16").

Hi Daniel,

We aren't familiar with that video but the new H16 jib halyards use a 6mm Dyneema line. If you are looking for a jacketed line to reduce slippage, something like New England's Endura Braid would be a good solution.

Thanks SLS. I re-watched the YouTube video discussing the new “unified” worlds boats and your recommendation matches theirs—a line with 5mm Dyneema core and a poly cover that’s 6mm overall.

On my end, since I’m not (yet) a worlds racer, I’m just weighing whether the $150ish for a new job halyard is in the budget for 2023.

We've had a lot of positive feedback from the FSE Robline 5mm Dinghy Control line, but any dyneema with a cover should take care of the job. 5mm would be the size to use.

The Prior worlds boats and all Australian boats for the last 10+years and most USA boats (for a period of time) came with Liros D Pro - 5mm - 21 mtrs long Liros ref: https://www.liros.com/catalog/en/d-pro-5mm-p1855/.

For the HC16G and the Spain worlds, we used Dynamic Color* Liros REF: 02028-0500 Custome Color: grey/white flecks. Liros REF: https://www.liros.com/catalog/en/dynami ... ariant=775

The D Pro 5mm really did not slip as such when cleated correctly and using the Harken 150 Cleat. The only issue I saw at prior worlds was the line twisting has you raised the sail if you did not guide the sail up (due to Ronstan Upper Pigtail block) and by having the casing, worked a treat.

I suggest Dpro, Dynamic Color or similar.
