Hey y'all. Does anyone have a lead on where to find a good cover for a Hobie 16? The cover on my boat is a fitted type of cover made of cloth/canvass type of material and I believe was purchased when the boat was purchased new so, it may have been an actual Hobie brand of cover. I can't seem to find a Hobie cover in the catalogue. thanks for any help or suggestions.

Hi Marty,

The 314-14TO17 cover listed in the Hobie Catalog under Universal Covers is the one used for the Hobie 16. Based on your description it may be the same kind you got when you bought the boat.

Marty, if you get one made out of Sunbrella it’ll last a long time. I believe 7 yrs guaranteed without fading for starters. $$$, though……

I second making one or having one made if you can. I'm super inexperiencd on a machine but managed to make covers for both my 16 and 14 with sunbrella. Material cost maybe about $200 per boat. I went with separate covers for each hull then a fairly heavy duty tarp to cover the tramp. I did try out an all in one design that included a tramp cover for the 16 but soon realised it was a lot harder and time consuming to get it on a off compared to the separate hull design. Sailrite has a great library of videos to get you up and sweing if you like me aren't experienced.

edited to add: Here's my post about the covers I made for the 14

I purchased a German made vinyl cover for my 16 that is fantastic. Found it on sale for 1/2 price. The cardboard box it arrived in had almost fallen apart. The cover is very heavy duty and the cardboard box not so much but it arrived in perfect condition.

Thanks for the info, I was planning to make some this spring out of off brand sunbrella. The plan was to just cover the hulls and leave the tramp, as it is much cheaper and easier to replace every 20 years or so. That sailrite website is awesome and full of great information.

Also, do you have the link or brand of the German cover?

Saw this cover included in a classified listing of a boat I was looking at:

It's not cheap but looks to be a quality product.

The Sailors' Tailor Hobie 16 cover, although expensive, is high quality. Mine (Polyester Army Duck, Blue) is still holding-up very well after 11 years of outdoor exposure (Northern Virginia).

Wow, this post is over a year old and I still haven't decided on a cover but leaning towards the one from Sailorstailer. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

Update: I just ordered the full skirted trailering/mooring cover from SailorsTailor. I ordered my cover in the army duck fabric and gray in color. I placed the order online and then spoke to a person in their customer service dept who is actually the son of the man that started the company and he was extremely helpful and thankful for my order. These covers are made to order and the turn around time is about 6 to 8 weeks. I can't wait to receive my cover and I am thankful that my H16 will be protected better now.

The Sailor Tailor just made my Hobie 16 a very nice mast cover. Great quality and price.

I called and checked on the status of my order yesterday and it is still in the process of being made. I talked with a very nice lady and she told me that they are backed up on orders but it should ship out in a few weeks.
