Post subject:  Hobie 16 main block hanger

Hi everyone.
Just purchased a used 16 and the boom has sets of holes for the block hanger in 3 different locations. It is currently positioned quite far aft, and the other 2 sets of holes from previous mounts are both forward of this position.
Took it for a spin and, with the shrouds at the 4th hole ( i'll be running the 3rd hole up as i single hand at 95kg) i cannot get the main block to block.
I've had several boats in the past with rotating masts and the angle of the main sheet from traveller to boom seems to be pulling the boom forward and really screwing with the rotation.
So, can anyone possibly give me a measurement from the forward most point of the gooseneck to the factory block hanger position on the boom - would be much appreciated.

Generally speaking, if you have multiple bales on the boom, but you have low profile blocks that only need to be attached to one bale, then you should choose the one that pulls the boom slightly forward when sheeted in. If the bale is too far forward, then the mast may not be forced into rotation. If the bale is too far back, you could overload and damage the gooseneck fitting.

Which Hanger to use?

The mast will likely rotate to its fullest with either location, but too far aft may cause additional load against the mast and harder tacking mast-rotation as mentioned above.

Either should be strong enough.

Current location of the single bale (from the bale end where the blocks hang, since it is at a small angle) 26.96 inches from the aft end of the boom extrusion not including the casting.
