Hs anyone tried to rig a h16 with a loose footed main?? Sort of like the Tiger.... I know the foot of the H16 main is cut with depth/curve to be fixed in the boom track and still keep the curve but what if its installed without running it thru the boom track? Or what if we take a standard H16 main and replace the foot panel with a straing cut pannel (no depth) and rig it loose only tack and clew attachments??? |

I dont know how it would sail but i'd imagine it would be a bit more worrie free. I like it but then again if it worked well I'd imagine we would have seen it by now. also my best guess is preformnance would take a considerable hit, thats why we have never seen it....... just my $.02 |

I've thought about this too. The goosneck fits into the track of the boom with a little filing to the end cap. The gooseneck would have to be cut and re-welded as well to get it turned the correct direction. You would have to figure out how to solidly mount the boom to the mast, (up and down), and a different downhaul. I wonder how the rope at the bottom of the sail would hinder this as well. Down side. There isn't much room under the boom as is, and you'd be loosing a couple inches at least, probably closer to four inches. |
