Post subject:  Gelcoat Colormatch

Anyone know how to colormatch the geloat on an orange (original) 1981 H16? Tried yellow and ading red but the cilor seemed really thin and transparent.

Good luck - when I did glasswork at a Hobie dealer in the late 70's / early 80's, the two hardest colors to match were orange (Tangerine) and (slime) Lime.

We used to tell customers that we could come close, but there's no way we could get an exact match.

That's an art, especially when you're trying to match a faded color.

If you don't mind spending some bucks (and removing a "sample"), you might give this guy a shot:

A lot of boat manufacturers have the gelcoat formulas for their boats. Maybe one exists for yours?!? MM would know.
Some of the boats I sell actually have a card with their formula laminated into the hulls. It's amazing how many whites there are!
