I have a Catalina 22 that can be "heaved to" for a hands free lunch break. Can the Hobie be done the same? Jay |

We commonly do this between races, but it requires a little attention to helm to keep it somewhat stopped. They always want to sail off on some tack. Jib out, main out and foot on tiller to keep it turned into the wind. |

Let the main and jib go. Hold the tiller over and you'll oscillate back and forth while drifting down wind. |

Would raising the rudders help? I know in drifting backwards with the rudders down they still have a steering effect, which if not adjusted occasionally, will cause the boat to steer back into the wind a little. |

Matt, when I heave to in my Catalina, I back wind the jib and haul in the main while pushing the tiller to leeward. It does take a little adjusting to make it work, but it's really amazing when it works. I can't just let out the sheets or the wind will beat the sails to death. Jay |
