Greetings. In an effort to streamline the trailering and launching process for my H16 I was wondering how you guys tie down the shrouds and trap lines after dropping the mast. I have been using a series of bungee cords to lash wires to the tramp which works well but is time consuming. Any tips would be greatly appriciated. I wrap the trap lines around the mast and use a bungie to tie them off at the jib halyard cleat. Mast goes up, and down with out excess wires in the way. I just coil the two shrouds and the forestay on the tramp. I use my jib sheet to tie the coiled shrouds to the lacing of the tramp.

I do not trailer my boat a whole lot but I leave all cables connected, coil and tie them to the hiking straps. I put an extra coil or 2 in the trap lines so they do not drag or hang low. |

Oops, I tie them with the jib sheet or front traveler lines, which ever is handy at the time. |

I keep everything connected to the mast. I then coil them and stuff them under the hiking straps and use little velcro strips to secure them. I've found they will lay flatter if you coil the wires one way then the other--i.e. one coil clockwise, the next counter clockwise. |

Wow, you guys have some great ideas. I usually trailor, rig and sail solo. With that being said, my backup plans have to have backup plans. In order to have peace of mind while trailoring (and so that I know exactly wheare everything is), I use a mast bag. http://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=262&g2_serialNumber=2&g2_GALLERYSID=6b1d0df37b58b6bcee975142ceab72ed Having to remove the bag slightly extends the time it takes to rig the boat but at least I know where everything is. Thanks for all the advice and photos, it's been most helpful! One more question: How do you avoid shrouds getting caught on the rudders/back of tramp when solo stepping the mast? Todd |

You have to lay them towards the middle of the boat over the back of the tramp. Around the outside of the hulls is guaranteed to get the shrouds caught on something. |
