Does anybody have experience using the rudder drilling template? I set it up, scaled correctly. There are the two sets of H16 holes: "A": adjustable rudder cams "B": non-adjustable rudder cams I'm wondering if anyone thinks that a particular set of holes will provide sufficient rudder rake to complement a more modern mast rake. I have old (non-adjustable) castings. Alternately, I am comfortable figuring out a new drilling pattern on my own to get the recommended 1-5/8" rake, measured 12" down from lower casting. |

First try to redrill only the upper bolt hole. Unbolt the upper casting, see if the rudder will move far enough forward. Consider grinding the lower casting. See the Sailing FAQ topic for more rake details. |

I looked that already - the front of rudder is already very nearly in contact with the bottom edge of lower casting. I am considering 'rotating' the rudder around this contact point, and redrilling both holes to achieve better rake. (As opposed to using the template) |

Perfect! Unblot the lower casting hole. Pivot the head aft until the rake is correct and drill. Set the upper arm on and use it as a drill guide. |
