Believe I read somewhere that the mast can weld itself to the base and wear prematurely. I currently am not using anything to separate the two. Thanks in advance for advice. Hibbo |

Yes, I would definitely pick up some bearings. Pretty cheap. I've read recently that plastic bottles caps can work in a pinch. Has to be better than aluminum on aluminum. |

A quarter can be used in a pinch, too. You should still should use the Teflon or Delrin bearings if at all possible - I'll keep the end of the mast from grinding down on the top of the dolphin striker. |

I don't know where you would get them in AUS - any Hobie dealer should have them. You can make your own Teflon bearings out of 2 mm thick sheet Teflon. Just cut a 3 cm diameter circle out. |

I have been using the lid from a butter container. I dont like using what hobie provides. Until the hobie teflon forms it's shape, it makes it hard to get the mast step pin in and out. |

I had some trouble forming the flat pices of teflon to a cup shap as well. Sometimes the mast base squeeses the bearing to the back of the base (or the side), while the front of the base rubbs on the mast. Some one told me that balls for golf practis work well. Those balls are hollow and after I cut them in half I have well formed cups. They are sold in packs of 12 balls - makes 24 cups - lasts a long time. Patrick |

There was a whole post on this resently. You can use plastic pop bottle lids, butter or margerine container material, quarters, and my personal favorite, melt ski Ptex into the socket. I think that the best thing I have ever used though, would have to be that hard plastic bottom in cheap luggage and gym bags. One sheet should probably yeild about seven hundred grommets and that stuff is bomb proof. And all of these solutions go great with a side of powdered graphite. Its a little messy but works great on travellers as well. |

I have used a piece of a plastic bottle of soap for dishes. It's cheap and efficient. I have cut it with the sharpe of a circle with a radiusly cut in order to build a cone adapted to the mast base. Forgive my english, please RONY |
