Post subject:  Length of hiking stick

We have acquired a 86 Hobie 16. It has been 23 years since our last Hobie.

How long is the standard hiking stick supposed to be? The one that came with the boat seems to be too long. I am thinking the one we have is for when you are using the trapezes. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure of the exact length, and I'm too lazy to go out in the rain to measure mine.

However, the stock length just clears the shrouds when the rudders are down. (Holding it level, you can swing it forward, towards the centerline of the boat and it will just touch the shroud.)

Long enough to fit under your armpit when you're on the trapeze. Gives you two hands when you need it.

Real life example: Single handing on starboard tack & need to adjust main traveler while on the wire. Or just to give your mainsheet hand a rest.
