Post subject:  Hull weights?
Hi, I have recently purchased 2 well used 16's to create 1 decent one.

I have both entirely dismantled at this time and would like to use the best parts from each..

I have noticed that there is a difference in Hull weight. I would like to use the lightest 2 of the four, does anyone see a problem?

Are there different hull stiffness? YES Kind of. If your hulls are delaminated they will be what is referred to as soft. You want to check the hulls (mainly the decks but also the sides) for soft spots. First, you can find problems by pressing (not with all of your weight) on the hulls, if there is any give or crackling, you may have a problem.

You should be able to tell a soft spot fairly easily.

Forgive me for stating the obvious, and Banzilla touched on this, but the hulls are asymetrical. There are port hulls and starboard hulls. I would assume you would use the best one of the port hulls and the best one of the starboard hulls.
