Hey guys me and my wife are both new at sailing a cat! We recently purchased a Hobie 16 1976 to be exact. I do not have all the stuff I need to sail...I was wondering if anyone lives in orlando and they could help me out with my project. I think have almost everything, but I might be missing some small hardware. I need new ropes and tramp rope. BTW if some has some extra rivets for the mast base and a pin for it that would be awsome! I will put pics up of everything that I have later today. Any help is greatly apreciated. I can't wait to get out on the water..... |

FC_Bryan, I was about in the same situation back in July when I first bought my 1981 H16. Here is what I did. I got a Hobie parts and accessories catalog, it has parts diagrams and upgrade ideas. I did a WHOLE BUNCH of reading, asking, and searching on this site (This site has volumes of information and very friendly and helpful people). I also bumped around the internet gathering information from aftermarket catamaran parts distributers. I bought "Catamaran Sailing From Start To Finish" at a local sailing supply store. A REALLY great aid was the H16 Rigging Video I bought out of the Hobie catalog...definetly worth the small price. Also you can and should download and print the H16 assembly manual (it's free from a few different sites). Note: When I first got my boat, I saw all those lines and wires and thought "will this ever make sense?". Then the first practice rigging took along time. Now I trailer my boat to the ramp, slap her together and go sailing in no time at all. So from one newcomer to another: Don't sweat it! Welcome! And you'll be havin a blast in no time at all! ![]() |

Just saw your posting for Orlando. The best quickest way to get with the central Florida sailers is to go to JPOR (Jetty ParK Ocean Regatta) this weekend Sep. 29-30. Take the Beechline east as far as you can. Exit for the south side of the port and continue to follow the road east. Jetty Park is on the south side of the port and the ocean. Just north of the RonJons Resort. I have a Teal jib. I live over by Sea World. Talk to you soon. Chuck |

Hi Guys! I am in SW Florida, just bought a H16 after a 18 year hiatus. The Hobie division 15 seems just about dead, so I too am looking for places to find other Hobie sailors in the state. Thanks Chuck for the info on the Jetty Park regatta! I'll be trying out my boat for the first time this weekend,so a bit too soon to head over to Cape Canaveral. Do you (or anyone else reading this) know of websites that list Florida cat events? Arie |
