Post subject: | Adding crew weight? |
Hi, Im 155 lbs and my crew is 110 for a total of 165. If Im not mistaken, minimum crew weight for a H16 is 280.. we are 15lbs under. How would one add weight to the boat to reach that 280pound mark required? No crispy cream donuts or bagels! thanks |

Actually, minimum crew weight is 285 lbs for the 16. This is for racing, right? Otherwise it doesn't matter if you're underweight. Anyway, there are a number of different methods of adding weight. Probably the easiest is to duct tape four 5 lb "beanbag" diving weights to the pylons. When I had to carry weight, I cast lead in a couple of tin cans, drilled a dolphin striker-sized hole down the middle, then cut them in half so I could tape them back together on the dolphin striker. |

Yes this is for racing... So then Ill need 20 pounds of weight! I'm not messing with melting lead and making my own weights...dont have the materials, too toxic and time consuming. Anyways can I buy two 10 pound dumbells the ones that are covered in a rubber type coating and use tie wraps to attach them to the front castings?? Or under the center tramp lacing (as close to the mast step as possible) in a straight line? |

Any type of weight that is not consumable and can be tied down will suffice. We prefer not using dumbbells due to the possibility of hitting them, but would work if you have nothing else. My personal favorite is shot filled sections of bicycle innertubes mounted as far forward and high as possible on the tramp. |

I used barbell weights lashed under he tramp just aft of the forward crossbar. It musta worked as I won every regatta I entered with that setup. |

Thirty pounds. My kid was a light weight at the time. Barbell weights may have not been the right description. I used the ones that are round and have a hole in the middle. I used 3/8 line to lash them to the tramp lacing. |
