What???? That's it ????? Then I've been taken. I paid $300 for a set of sails (main & Jib) w/ the sail #7577. I know they're older than my boat which is an 85 (built in 84).They were in good condition but they were still $300 bucks.

Oh, well, you live and learn. I'm getting ready to spend $725 for a brand new square-top for my H16. I know, I'm treading in uncharted waters but I just have to know.

its hard to put a price on used sails. Each local market will bring different prices. On the web used sails seem to be used sails in the price range Matt spoke of, no matter how old they are. i've been shocked at the prices on e-bay of old old sails. when a newer set pops up they seem to all go for the same price.

I wouldn't say you've been "taken", David. You paid what you thought was a fair price. It was an arms-length transaction.

Sails are like most cars - they loose about 25% of their value as soon as you drive them off the lot. It's hard to believe that the car I bought in 1999 for over $40K is now only worth a tenth of that today.

I think the market for used sails is very price limited. Like Brad said - $400 seems to be the top end, no matter how old they are.

How much are Battens worth, if included?

I just spent 198$ for the main set and 74$ for the jib set... + a set of main and jib Trentec luff caps... About 25$ more...
$297...

A nasty pitchpole a few weeks back and turtle for an hour ripped my main and lost 7 battens so I ordered all new for the hell of it. Grommets pulled out the leach! More than 90 feet of water depth in the Atlantic...not salvagable.

I dont see how fiberglass battens depreciate much, unless they have stress cracks or have been sanded to adjust the foil shape, otherwise...new caps and they are as good as new.

And I havent seen anyone with spare battens collecting dust they just dont break. So a set will be all u need for many years. Just make sure u tie them correctly and use an additional hitch after wedging the batten line to the cap.

Most used parts seem to go for 1/2 price. Now this can't be an exact formula for all parts just one I used for a quick guide line. I'd put a quick price of $130 on them assuming they are in good shape.
