Post subject:  Broken Jib Hank

Hey folks,
I broke the hank on my jib about 3 sailing sessions ago. Am I slowing myself down by not replacing it, or is it just a convenience so that the sail doesn't blow out to the side while hoisting. It seems like a moot piece of equipment as soon as I tighten the halyard. What do you think?

I've never been able to get the jib set right w/o the hank. The head always wants to blow out.

You are right, the only function is to keep the sail forward as you raisen or lower it. It does help on a windy day.
