Sails useable life

Post subject:  Sails useable life

My sails are around 8 or 9 years old while they look ok I have been told they have stretched and are very full ...


What would typical sail life be ?
How much perfomance will you loose with older sails?

Life span is subjective. Some racers will buy a new set every year to maintain the mythical edge. Fun sailors will keep using them until all the stitching pulls out.

There's a happy medium somewhere.

The usable life is when they are ripped dry rotted and your bed sheet looks better. Now a "blown out" sail isn't going to be as fast, unless you are racing against newer sails you may or may not find any noticeable difference in the performance. However as a Dealer you should immediately replace the sails, you will ask your self what took so long to do so, J/k...

I rock original sails... circa 1982. Although, the boat and sails were in storage for ten+ years.

I don't race though...
