Stick with the Hobie Tramp unless your truly broke. If thats the case then go after a aftermarket tramp. (but you will replace that in about 2 - 5 years)

My tramp on my hobie 16 is weak after after 26 years. I think it deserves a rest. Is the hobie tramp the best way to go? I like my old tramp and I am sure the new hobie tramps are just as good. And hey how many products last 26 years in the sun, rain and snow? But my boat is banana yellow with the Tequila Sun Rise sails. It is so pretty with the yellow tramp, hulls and sails. Hobie does not make the matching tramp anymore. So I am thinking about a new tramp. What have others found with hobie and other brands? If I have to change the color of my tramp than I might get a differant brand. I don't race so that is not an issue. Are the bias cut better in a mesh? Do they need the center lacing cord if bias? I plan on buying a cover for the new tramp to reduce sun damage. Tell me your experiances please. |

Stick with the Hobie tramp. If you have to have a yellow one there is plenty of used ones out there. Might take some poking around the internet and some phone calls but you should be able to find a good one for not alot of money and will last probably as long as you need it to. |

If you're replacing your old tramp, my advice is to go with a new Hobie supplied tramp. Very good quality and superb factory and dealer support. Buying a used tramp may be economical, but the quality will not be guaranteed...especially if it's from one of Wessel's boats, lol. Gotta watch out for that Brogger fella also, lol. |

I had the same boat and the same problem, I finally got a black mesh tramp from Hobie, it went well with the black anodized frame. The only thing I don't like (which I didn't realize till after I put it on) is that the water comes up from the bottom making the boat much wetter that it was. Even in a moderate breeze with a moderate swell lots of water comes up from under the tramp. |

RJack22 When I first got my boat, the tramp was light blue. I thought that was the ugliest color I'd ever seen. After a little research, I'd decided to change the color to a richer shade of blue with "vinyl" spray paint. This has worked well for me and the tramp looks great. However, the texture of the paint left the tramp a little slippery. To combat this. I found a clear texture non-skid coating (spray on) made by Krylon that added more than enough traction. It even has better traction than the texture of the original tramp. I'd recommend this for anyone that's having a traction problem, even if their tramp hasnt been painted. |

First, thanks for all your replies. I have looked for two years for a used one in the same color, I may be looking in the wrong places but no luck. I looked mostly on Ebay. I live in Wisconsin so with the short season I prefer not to get mesh. The splashing through the mesh would just make the season shorter. Frankly the thought of spending $400 and then having to dye it seems silly to me and if I mess the dying up I am stuck with it. But I may have to do it anyway. I am not shooting anything down just thinking out loud so to speak. Thanks |

Try calling Hobie dealers. Some has to have one rolled up on a shelf somewhere. Alot of the old boats have been parted out. |

I have yellow hull tops and white hulls... with yellow, white, and rainbow insert sails... it had a vinyl yellow tramp, looked original that was nasty when I got it... I put a hobie black mesh tramp on it and I absolutely LOVE it! |

I have a yellow tramp that I took off of my 84. The top of it is faded, looks beige now, but the underside is still bright yellow. I've heard you can flip them and they look just fine. Give me what you think its worth and its yours. I live in MN so if its going to WI shipping shouldn't be bad at all. |
