Hi there... I want just to know if it's safe to put the spi kit over a 02 european boat. There is some issue related to this? Someone can give some tips on how to use the spi? Thanx a lot Max |

Spin kit on a euro H16? No problem at all. THe Euro 16 has an all metal mast, so is better suited for it than the US CompTip mast. There are lots of books on spinnaker handling. |

This is my fear, i think to reinforce the bow under with epoxy and fiberglass. Any tips? |

Maybe they are talking about the bow tang areas, but the boats have been pretty much the same construction in the USA since the early days. No changes that would effect spinnaker use. You never know about Hobie Europe though. They have done their own thing over the years... making changes etc. Maybe they just want to promote new boat sales though? |

I have reinforced the bows of my 91 H16 for using the spi kit, after seeing a few broken bows on the last europeans. Just get off the gelcoat in the lower U-shaped part of the bows (say 5 cm to each side, its just the very tips that brake), give it a few layers of fiber and terminate with gelcoat (you just fill the "U"). Then open the hole for the screws and you are done. I think Hobie Europe also sells some plastic parts to reinforce the bows, but the fiber works perfectly and you will not notice it from above. |
