Why don't you just put the grommets in yourself?
It's not a big deal.

Last year on this forum I read that Hobie was changing the tramps on the 16 starting with the 08 boats. I am curious to see them and would like to request a pic. Thanks. |

I think the change was a grommet was going to be added on both sides for the crew's trap return line. |

Yep. That, and an extra grommet on the outboard stern of each half so that the lacing pulls the tramp aft rather than to the center. This eliminates the problem of the tramp potentially pulling out of the side rail. Both improvements have been very well received by our customers. My question is: Side rail track openings forward or aft? |

Cool. I would really like to see one if anyone has a pic. I may be interested in purchasing one and selling my current tramp which is only one year old, always covered and stored inside for winter. Heck I should go take a look at the boat as I have not seen it since late Oct! |

Well I actually didnt think of doing it myself as way back when "80" I think, I replaced some grommets on my first 16 with not so great results as a couple came apart and pulled out. I do not think the grommets were of great quality and the tool wasn't great either. I like the fact that the crew trap line is separated to eliminate confusion and keep it clear. Heh I also like seeing the traveler line tied to the shroud! Mine are just laying around tangled with the jib sheet. I got quite a chuckle to myself seeing something so simple!! Thanks again. |

It's not a big deal. The new Hobie tramps have 2 grommets one for each trap, slight difference from matt's pic. Due to abrasion I figure, they used stainless gromets and the ones I got had extra patches welded to the tramp. They're pretty cool. |

The problem with running the skipper's trap through a grommet is that the shock cord pulls you forward when you're on the wire. The crew never strays far from the grommet location, so they don't have that problem. The break in the sidebar carpeting shown in my photo provides a nice "parking spot" for the skipper's trap so it's not sawing through the carpet/shock cord when not in use. Of course, you don't have to run the traps through the grommets, either. |

I will not be installing the grommets. I like the trap lines just the way they are. My only want for this season is the 6 to 1 downhaul system. Thanks for the help and pics!! |

Where are they putting the skippers grommets? When I did this to the tramp on my 06' I put it about half way in between the shroud and the rear beam. I never really noticed a pull. With the plastic carabiners I just left them on the boat too. One less thing to do. I also added a grommet just forward of the shroud for the jib traveler lines to tie off at. I got sick of them being tied off to the hiking straps.
