My 1984 standard white hiking stick gives me fiberglass burrs everytime I use it. I was thinking of putting polyurathane on it after a good sand. Any other ideas? |

That sounds about right. It probably sat out in the sun too long. I would give it a light sand (wearing gloves & long sleeves) and then coat it with something to seal the exposed fibers- polyurethane, paint, resin. sm |

Hmmmmmmm. I wish I'd thought of that when I first started sailing (before I went to the Arriba stick). I used friction tape. Well, it did give the stick an excellent grip. Oh well . . . you sail and learn. |

Have you considered using heat shrink tubing? If you don't leave the stick out in the hot sun all the time it might be an alternative to doing a lot of sanding and painting or glassing. A good electronics store (Frys on the west coast) should have long sections in stock. It's just an idea... Rick |

I sanded it with 320 and then put two coats of polyurathane on it. Took 10 min. and looks and feels new. Thanks, Nate |
