Post subject:  Best kind of Paint?
How should I go about getting the Dagger boards and the hulls painted? I don't have the stuff to do it or the space. Also what kind of paint is the best/most durable to salt water and sun?

I just repainted my 16 with Interlux Awl-Grip. It turned out quite well.

Also Awl-Grip holds up better than anything else on the market to UV and salt water as far as I know.

First you fill any gouges with west-system epoxy and filling compound and sand. Repeat if necessary. Spray with primer, wait a half hour spray again. Wait 12 hours. Spray topcoat, wait half hour spray topcoat again. You should be able to find more information on google, start with interlux's website.

If you don't wish to do it yourself you could hire someone to do it but I have heard it can cost upwards of $1000 to have it done.

Please note, Awl grip is not the easiest thing to spray with, you can use a roller but the finish won't be as smooth. That being said the end result can be quite good.

I sprayed it. However, many people "roll and tipp" with good results, that may be a good option if you don't have a spray gun or are not confident with one.

I rolled and tipped my last boat and it looked like brand new! The trick is a really good brush to tipp with! GL It's takes plenty of time!

Did you use Awl-grip? If not what kind of paint did you use?

I think it was interlux bright shine....but I would have to check to make sure....Let you know tomorrow if I still have the left over can in the garage!

What exactly is roll and tipp? How do you do it?
Does roll mean using a roller?, if so what kind?, brand, etc.?
What does tipp mean?

Roll and tip means to roll the paint on with (usually) a foam roller over a small area, then immediately follow up with an ultra-high-quality china bristle brush to lightly smooth the finish out (using just the tips of the bristles).
